Carbon Capture Coalition Statement on the President’s FY2024 Budget Request

The following statement may be attributed to Jessie Stolark, Executive Director of the Carbon Capture Coalition: 

“We are encouraged by the release of the President’s Budget Request today, which includes funding for crucial carbon management programs at the Department of Energy and affiliated permitting programs at the U.S. EPA.  While we don’t yet know the exact details of the President’s request for these programs, we look forward to working with House and Senate appropriators to ensure that core research, development and deployment funds for carbon capture, storage, carbon utilization and carbon dioxide removal activities at the Department of Energy are funded at the levels necessary for these technologies to continue to scale. In addition to advancing these core activities, robust funding is necessary to ensure appropriate staffing levels to swiftly and properly implement the historic carbon management deployment funding contained within the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. Advancing carbon management activities at the Department of Energy is crucial to meeting net-zero emissions and mid-century climate goals, supporting domestic energy and manufacturing, and expanding family sustaining jobs across America.”

Convened by the Great Plains Institute, the Carbon Capture Coalition is a nonpartisan collaboration of more than 100 companies, unions, conservation and environmental policy organizations, building federal policy support to enable economywide, commercial scale deployment of carbon management technologies. This includes carbon capture, removal, transport, utilization, and storage from industrial facilities, power plants, and ambient air.
