The Carbon Capture Coalition released the following statement – attributable to Coalition Executive Director Jessie Stolark – on the US Senate confirmations of Lee Zeldin as the 17ᵗʰ Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency, Doug Burgum as the 55ᵗʰ Interior Secretary and Chris Wright as the 17ᵗʰ Secretary of Energy:

“We look forward to working with Secretary Wright, Secretary Burgum, Administrator Zeldin, and the Trump Administration to advance the deployment of carbon capture, removal, reuse, transport and storage technologies, and welcome their engagement from day one on this bipartisan energy, jobs, innovation, and industrial opportunity. We are encouraged by the new cabinet appointees’ positive comments about carbon management in their Senate confirmation hearings and past support for these technologies in their roles in government and the private sector.

“Historically, carbon management has enjoyed durable bipartisan support from Members of Congress and the White House. President Trump accelerated the carbon management industry by signing the 2018 FUTURE Act during his first term. This action paved the way for further bipartisan enhancements to the tax credit in 2022, and the authorization of additional monies for federal funding for demonstration and deployment. As the US continues to develop and deploy energy technologies and deliver emissions reductions, carbon capture, removal, reuse, transport, and storage must continue to be a central piece of a broader federal strategy in sustainably meeting growing energy demand. Moving forward, carbon management technologies will be crucial tools for balancing the increasing need for affordable, reliable energy that drives the American economy and environmental stewardship. The administration now has the imperative to maintain America’s place on the world stage as a technology innovation leader through the demonstration and deployment of the full suite of carbon management technologies.

“We hope to see strong support for the policies and programs required to build these important American industries as part of the Trump Administration’s agenda at the Department of Energy (DOE), the Department of Interior (DOI), and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Our 100+ members including representatives from industry, conservation and environmental nonprofits, and labor unions are eager to help advance a comprehensive and ambitious portfolio of policies to deploy these technologies, which will be articulated in the Coalition’s forthcoming 2025 Federal Policy Blueprint.”

“We congratulate Administrator Zeldin, Secretary Burgum, and Secretary Wright on their confirmations and stand ready to work with them, Congress, and the broader administration to implement policies and programs that scale up the full suite of carbon management solutions as an essential energy and environment, and economic development solution.”
