Washington, DC – The Carbon Capture Coalition today welcomed Calpine Corporation as a Coalition Participant. Calpine Corporation is one of America’s largest generators of electricity from natural gas and geothermal resources with operations in competitive power markets. Their fleet of 77 power plants, including one under construction, represents over 26,000 megawatts of generation capacity. Through their wholesale power operations and retail businesses, operating as Calpine Energy Solutions and Champion Energy, the company serves customers in 23 states, Canada and Mexico. Their fleet uses advanced technologies to generate power in a low-carbon and environmentally responsible manner. They are supportive of carbon capture technology as an important part of a set of market-based solutions to address climate change.

Coalition Public Policy and Member Relations Manager Jessie Stolark issued the following welcome statement:

“We are happy to welcome Calpine as a new Participant in the Carbon Capture Coalition. Calpine’s interest in collaborating with the more than 80 organizations in the Coalition to promote carbon capture technology deployment reflects the diversity of carbon capture technology applications, as well as the growing support for this technology across the economy. Energy generation firms will play a valuable and important role in the adoption of carbon capture technology. We thank Calpine for their commitment to working with us and the broad, bipartisan membership of the Coalition to realize commercial-scale carbon capture deployment.”
