Carbon Capture Coalition Members Write Congress in Support of the USE IT Act

September 3, 2019 | Legislation

Forty members of the Carbon Capture Coalition have sent a letter to the chairmen and ranking members of the House and Senate Armed Services Committees to express the Coalition’s support for retaining the USE IT Act in the final version of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). Senate Armed Services Chairman Jim Inhofe (R-OK) included the USE IT Act in the version of the NDAA that recently passed the Senate.

The signatories represent a broad range of the Coalition’s membership of: energy, industrial, and technology companies; labor unions; and environmental and energy policy organizations.

House and Senate conferees are meeting early in September to decide on the specific provisions to include in the final version. In their letter, the Carbon Capture Coalition members wrote:

“The USE IT Act was reported out of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works unanimously, only to have the Congressional session end prior to adoption by both Houses. The USE IT Act was subsequently included in the NDAA that recently passed the Senate. Companion legislation in the House currently enjoys similar broad bipartisan support with 36 cosponsors, including 24 Democrats and 12 Republicans. It is time to pass this important and widely-supported climate and energy legislation, and the NDAA provides an appropriate opportunity to do so.”
